System Activity Dashboard — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 15 October 2026

1. Scope and responsible provider

This policy covers System Activity Dashboard, the macOS app displayed on your Mac as System Activity (bundle identifier systemactivity.niceosoft.com), and explains the separate processing involved when you contact us or visit our website. Last updated: 15 October 2026.

The provider and controller for support correspondence is Andre Sieger, trading as Niceosoft, c/o IP-Management #7773, Ludwig-Erhard-Str. 18, 20459 Hamburg, Germany. Privacy contact: info@niceosoft.com. App support: niceosoft@gmail.com. The current provider details are also in our legal notice.

2. The app works locally

System Activity reads system statistics on your Mac to show CPU use, memory use, swap information where available, and Wi-Fi/Ethernet traffic totals and rates. It records timestamps, measured durations, system-wide measurements and interface identifiers in a local SQLite history database inside its protected application support directory. Settings such as language, retention, recording, haptic feedback and keeping the Mac awake are stored locally.

The app does not send these measurements or settings to Niceosoft. It has no user account, cloud synchronisation, advertising, analytics SDK, tracking identifier or automatic telemetry service. Its sandbox does not include permission to initiate network connections. Viewing network counters does not mean it reads packet contents, browsing history, documents, passwords or messages.

3. Live process information

The process view reads process names, process IDs, app/background classification and available CPU and resident memory values. Process names can reveal which applications you use. This information is shown live and held only in the app’s working memory; it is not added to the history database or CSV exports and is not transmitted to Niceosoft. Values that macOS does not permit the app to read remain unavailable. The app does not measure network traffic per process or terminate other processes.

4. Recording, retention and deletion

Recording takes place while the app is running and recording is enabled. Closing the main window leaves it running in the menu bar; quitting stops recording. Sleep or recording pauses leave gaps. The app can prevent automatic system sleep during recording; this option is initially enabled and can be disabled in Settings. It increases energy use and does not guarantee uninterrupted operation.

You can choose a history retention period of 7, 30 or 90 days; the default is 30 days. Older records are pruned when the app starts, when retention is changed and periodically during recording. Choosing a shorter period can permanently remove older records. Choosing a longer period cannot restore deleted records.

Delete all history removes measurements from the active local database and pauses recording. Recording stays paused until you resume it. This action does not delete your preferences, CSV files you exported, or independent macOS, Time Machine or other backups. It is not a forensic secure-erasure service. Manage separate files and backups in the respective storage or backup system.

5. CSV exports and backups you control

CSV export writes system measurements for the selected period to the location you choose using the macOS save dialog. CSV files include timestamps and system measurements, not the live process list. Exporting does not send a file to Niceosoft.

If you choose a cloud-synchronised folder, network share or backup service, that service may receive or retain the file or local app data under its own settings and privacy rules. Take care when sharing exports, which can reveal patterns of computer activity. Niceosoft cannot retrieve, delete or restore files or history stored only on your device or with your chosen provider.

6. Optional support correspondence

If you email us, we process the address and name supplied with your email, its content, relevant correspondence metadata and any attachments you deliberately send, solely to handle your request and any related legal obligations. The app does not automatically attach its database, process list, logs or exports. Send only the information needed and remove private information from screenshots or files first.

For contract-related requests, the legal basis is Article 6(1)(b) GDPR. For other enquiries, it is Article 6(1)(f) GDPR, our legitimate interest in responding to people who contact us and resolving issues. Article 6(1)(c) GDPR applies where retention is legally required. No automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects are made from support correspondence.

Our support address uses Gmail; Google and the mail providers involved in delivery process correspondence under their applicable terms. Your email may be processed outside the EEA according to the relevant provider’s arrangements and legal transfer safeguards. We do not sell support correspondence or use it for advertising. We keep correspondence only as long as necessary to resolve and follow up the request, comply with applicable legal retention duties, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims; applicable limitation and retention periods determine any longer storage. You may contact us to ask which period applies to your request.

7. Apple, TestFlight and external websites

Apple operates the App Store, purchases, downloads and TestFlight. Apple may process account, payment, device, diagnostics or beta-feedback information under its own policies and your Apple settings. TestFlight feedback or diagnostics made available by Apple are separate from the app’s own local recording. Information we receive through an Apple feedback channel is used to investigate the report and improve reliability; we do not add it to advertising profiles.

Opening Help, Privacy Policy or another external link launches your browser or email app. The destination then receives the connection information needed to serve it. Visiting this page is a website request, distinct from using the offline app: our web host processes technical request data such as IP address, time and requested path to deliver and protect the website. Website processing is described in the separate Niceosoft website privacy policy. This document itself uses no analytics, advertising, remote fonts or embedded third-party media.

8. Your choices and privacy rights

You can pause recording, change retention, delete local history, disable the keep-awake option and choose the app language in Settings. No registration or disclosure of your local history to Niceosoft is required to use the app.

Where the GDPR applies to personal data we hold, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction and, where the legal conditions apply, portability. You may object, on grounds relating to your situation, to processing based on our legitimate interests. Where processing relies on consent, you may withdraw it for the future. These rights are subject to the conditions and exceptions in applicable law. Contact info@niceosoft.com; we respond within the applicable statutory periods.

You may lodge a complaint with a competent data protection supervisory authority, particularly in the country of your habitual residence, workplace or the alleged infringement. We cannot supply a copy of device-only history because we do not receive it; use the app’s CSV export or local deletion controls for those records.

9. Changes

We will update this policy if app functionality or relevant processing changes and show the revised date here. A future data-transfer feature would need to be described before it is introduced. This policy describes the current app and does not authorise undisclosed collection.
